Contesto storico
The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a Japanese medium tank introduced in 1937. It was developed as an improvement over earlier Japanese designs, with a riveted hull, a rotating turret, and a 57 mm main gun in its original configuration. The tank was built for the Japanese Army and became one of Japan’s most widely produced armored vehicles of the period.
Type 97 tanks saw service during the Second World War, particularly in the campaigns in China and across the Pacific. Their relatively light armor and modest armament reflected the conditions for which they had been designed, including infantry support and operations over difficult terrain. Later versions received upgrades, including a longer 47 mm gun, creating differences in appearance and battlefield role among surviving examples.
Today, the Type 97 Chi-Ha remains recognizable for its compact silhouette, rounded turret, and distinctive interwar-to-World War II engineering. This Sluban model offers a brick-built interpretation of that historically important Japanese tank without losing the practical, functional character that made the original so notable.
