Tło historyczne

USS Missouri was an Iowa-class fast battleship of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1944 during the final phase of the Second World War. Built for high speed, heavy protection and long-range firepower, she carried three large main turrets, each mounting three 16-inch guns. Her design also included substantial secondary and anti-aircraft armament, reflecting the changing demands of naval warfare in the Pacific.

The ship is especially remembered for her role in the formal Japanese surrender ceremony held on her deck in Tokyo Bay on 2 September 1945. USS Missouri later returned to active service during the Korean War, demonstrating the long operational life of these powerful battleships. Today she is preserved at Pearl Harbor as the Battleship Missouri Memorial, where visitors can experience her historic decks and imposing naval architecture.
